About Malverne
The area was first called Norwood, but an upstate village already had that name, so it became Malverne, after Malvern in England. It incorporated in 1921. Much of its housing was built by the Amsterdam Development Corporation as farmland was sold off and the railroad arrived; Malverne and Westwood stations on the LIRR's West Hempstead Branch still serve it. Crossroads Farm at Grossman's, now owned by Nassau County, is described as the village's last working farm.
